2025 Year in Review: Stability, Innovation and Growth at Zebra Eclipse

January 5, 2026 by Andrew Leave a Comment

2025 has been a notoriously challenging year for the digital publishing sector. It was a year where search algorithms shifted dramatically, AI Overviews changed how audiences discover information, and the traditional “influencer” market faced a credibility crisis.

Despite this volatility, Zebra Eclipse has remained focused on stability, technical innovation, and delivering genuine value to our friends and partners. We have weathered the storm by rejecting the poorly applied labels often found in our industry. Instead, we operate as a hybrid: possessing the rigour of a publisher with the agility and engagement of an influencer.

We are pleased to report that this strategy has resulted in an all-time high for our affiliate revenue, with requests from merchants to join our programme reaching record levels.

Technical Evolution across the Network

Our primary focus this year was respecting our readers’ time and enhancing how they explore content.

At Geek Native, we introduced interactive topic exploration across tag, category, and author pages, along with an innovative content-sharing system. Content-wise, we maintained our commitment to the community by supporting indie roleplaying games announcements and securing over 20 exclusive news pieces and interviews. Our coverage of Tabletop Scotland 2025 set a new benchmark for the site.

At In Pure Spirit, we rolled out interactive mind map tags and “bottom line up first” summaries. This allows our audience to digest complex information quickly, improving on-page engagement metrics significantly.

Edinburgh Reviews had a standout year. We focused on speed and authority, becoming the first to review multiple venues, shows, and festival acts across the city. This effort was rewarded when the blog was formally added to Google News, significantly boosting our reach and organic visibility.

Authority and Reach

Authenticity remains our strongest asset. In 2025, Zebra Eclipse attained formal media accreditation for four major events:

  • The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
  • Comic Con Scotland
  • UK Games Expo
  • Tabletop Scotland

This on-the-ground access allows us to create original content that stands out against AI-generated summaries. Our social reach has reflected this quality, with individual content pieces on Pinterest, TikTok, Threads, and Bluesky surpassing 10k views organically.

Looking Ahead to 2026

We enter the new year with a clear view of the landscape. As other outlets struggle to adapt to the changing digital environment, we see further whitespace opening up for Zebra Eclipse. By balancing our technical SEO foundation with the authentic voice of a trusted influencer, we are uniquely positioned to partner with brands looking for stability and genuine engagement.

2025 was a busy year, and 2026 promises to be a great one.

Christmas influencers

Zebra Eclipse runs several social media profiles and blogs, yet we’re not fond of the term ‘influencers‘.

You’ll already likely have wondered what value many influencers actually have and what they actually influence. Even as we’re cautious and careful about applying the term influencers to ourselves, we’re in awe at some of the creative content and imaginative ideas we’ve seen shared by ‘influencers’.

As a collaborative point, what about considering the social platforms as the enablers of influence? TikTok and Instagram are the influencers; these platforms can make Christmas gifts go viral, and Edinburgh restaurants can be the town’s next talk.

What we’re doing for Christmas

We’re out and about, at Christmas markets, festive shows – and doing a lot of supporting local businesses with our Christmas shopping!

We’re also ensuring we’re on as many social media platforms as is wise.

Christmas influencer thoughts

Like Reddit, Pinterest seems to be a social media platform with scarce media coverage despite impressive traffic.

Snap, once known as Snapchat, has a loyal user base, and YouTube has rolled out @handles and is pushing deeper into social media.

Private Discord, Telegram and WhatsApp communities or closed Facebook groups are strong.

It’s harder and harder for brands and advertisers to be in all the places, in a cost-effective way, and well. A one-size-fits-all approach rarely works.

A Christmas influencer trend, in one shape or form, will likely touch on the increased fragmentation of the social space. There are fewer strong influencers on three platforms than there are strong influencers on two. That’s also a problem for publishers and would-be-influencers battling multiple fronts.

Zebra Eclipse does not claim to know whether, here in the final weeks of 2023, BlueSky, Mastodon or X will have a good 2024, but we do know we could and should be there.
